Katie Holmes has found herself walking away from Tom Cruise with almost nothing after their recent divorce. It seems the only thing she managed to bag was child custody and a measly child support payment every month.
Although we’re saying that child custody isn’t an important thing, we’re surprised with how she didn’t get a single penny from Cruise. Essentially what happened is, before their marriage they signed a prenup agreement which protected Tom’s estimated $250+ million. Sources have told TMZ that in cases like this, the prenup will protect all of the wealth.
With that said, the court’s ruled that Cruise must pay Holmes over $33,000 per month in child support. This will be used for a wide variety of reasons, such as health, dental treatment, hospitals, school, clothes and soforth. The payment will be made monthly via electronic bank transfer. In total, it all adds up to just over $400,000 per year (which is still rather low for such a wealthy man).
Suri (the child in the middle) will receive child support until she’s 18 years old (12years time). Over the span of 12years, Holmes is expected to receive no less than $4.8 million.
It has been agreed by both of them that Suri will not be attending a private boarding school, but instead will attend a normal district school until she finishes high school. While you may consider this rather unusual, sometimes celebrities do allow their children to blend in with society.
Katie has definitely cut herself short though as under New York law, she would be entitled to a bigger monthly check. It seems the pair settled quickly in order to avoid dragging the child through the courts – good on them!
Holmes did say she wanted nothing from Cruise after the divorce and it seems she was correct. She got nothing but support for their child.
